Childrens Trip - December 2009
On Sunday 20th December, the Yorkshire Coast Community Rail Partnership in association with Northern Rail took 30 people from Hull Paragon station to Bridlington by train. The trip was for some of the children of Northcott Special School, Hull who were invited with their parents and siblings plus some staff members (who were kindly working on a Sunday) to join the YCCRP on a trip to Bridlington. Santa was on the train and one carriage was decorated for Christmas. A Christmas crafts workshop was provided at MIND Old Parcels Office in Bridlington plus refreshments. E Yorkshire Junior Football League in Bridlington funded the workshop staff and hire of the room for the workshops. The fund also ran to some gifts for the santa bags plus W Boyes & Co Ltd donated a £10 voucher and Co op donated the mince pies. |

Events in May and June 2010
29 May - Bridlington Station Gala This was very well attended and we also got two new members for the Partnership . It was a warm day and we had live music. There was much press beforehand in Hull and Scarborough papers and on Yorkshire Coast Radio. We did a small snap shot survey for fun (Donkey ride as a prize) that revealed that 100% of people said that visiting the gala has encouraged them to travel by train in the future.
13 June - Dove House Hospice, family fun 'its a knockout' day Our thanks to First Hull Trains and David Townend for enabling us to attend this event, funding the stand etc. We spoke to around 300 people including families - the hospice being very much part of the local community and the nature of that community in East Hull (extended, close family) - about everything from Northern Ranger and Rover services across the region, duo, Hull Trains summer offer to London, through to family, disabled and senior citizen railcards. We gave out Hull Trains freebies and ran a competition to win train tickets to London and raised £30 on the stand for Dove House. It was a fun day and what we all did contributed to the total of £24,000 raised on the day for Dove House Hospice.
19 June - Sheffield We took VHEY with us this time so they could promote the region and we could promote rail services. Spoke with around 100 people. Good, useful and smoothly run day.

Events in April/May 2010
30th April - Murder Mystery This was the second one this year and the best. We usually do two each year but this year have already sold out for number 3. Gained three new members for the YCCRP.
1st May - Hull Station A very good day. Again, we are amazed that even though there is a travel centre at Hull Paragon we still had over 350 people talking to us on that one day. We worked with Community Junction which is a signpost organisation for other organisations ie. respite for carers, mobility schemes, childrens play schemes. This was to our advantage as a number of disabled people took railcard leaflets and senior citizen rail card leaflets from us. With permission from TPE we boarded trains on the platforms waiting to go to Bridlington and Scarborough, talking to passengers about local rail services, improvements to the Sunday service, the forthcoming new value added line guide etc. Doncaster event Visit Hull and E Yorks tourism body and Scarborough Hospitality association joined us - with permission from EC - and we all had a great, joined up thinking, promoting rail travel and attractions and accommodation day. Spoke to about 200, perhaps 250 people. Through trains Doncaster to Bridlington - our bespoke leaflets proved useful again. Railway Ramble wet and cold but useful - 13 attended. |

Driffield Show 2010
We had an excellent day with 700 additional journeys to Driffield station by train, and a four fold increase in revenue. Shuttle bus 1 carried just over 1800 and Shuttle bus 2 1087 - thanks to EYMS for their support with the increased shuttle buses and the extra service buses laid on for the Show - They always react swiftly to additional need during the day to ensure visitors have the most enjoyable day and ease of travel. Also because the Show Team allow the £1 of offer - this encourages the public transport use - so thanks to them. From leaflet distribution and general publicity, conducting surveys on trains, assisting passengers and Revenue Protection Team at the station, management of shuttle buses and service buses at the Show Ground and working on BusIt on a very warm and dusty Show Ground - thanks to you all - and to Northern for all the support, the Revenue team and Mrs Greenley!. Many thanks to all the YCCRP volunteers who helped to promote the rail and bus services.

Events in July 2010
3 July - Scarborough Station Scarborough Museums Trust joined us on a lovely sunny Saturday when the E Mids Saturday summer service was also running - 120 people spoken with. BTP have asked us to work with them to promote safety/security of luggage, we gave out about 300 BTP book marks to remind people about care of luggage etc.on trains.
3 July - Cottingham Day In the village, the idea was to promote train travel and also seek tenant for the station and group to garden/care for it - 50% success - we found the Cottingham WildSpaces Team who have already started work to clear the station flower beds and garden them! Now we just need some rain.
10 July - University Open Days We attended Open Days at both Hull and Scarborough campus of Hull University for the second time this year. The philosphy - whilst students will tend to live in Hull or Scarborough and study there at that place - they will have visitors and friends who may travel by train, they will go home and out of Scarborough, the lecturers travel from far and wide, and teacher training placements travel. In addition to this, car parking is at a premium at both these sites. Therefore we introduced rail travel to these groups. TPE produced for us travel wallets for both sites showing the TPE website so students could access student offers - very good idea, thanks TPE. At both sites lots of Student Railcard applications were given out and lots of information given to students and to their parents. Very successful.
18 July - Tesco Community Fayre St Stephens Plaza, Hull. Busy day but not as busy as last year due to windy weather and a lot of other Clipper related events going on in the City. We spoke to about 150 people - the aim of the day was to target parents and children for summer hols. We promoted what to do over the holidays - Northern added value line guide, Day Ranger, Driffield Show offer, family railcards and the Hull Trains £79 offer.
18 July - Chinese Community Centre trip to Bridlington Northern sponsored 20 children to travel from Hull to Bridlington for the day. This charity then found the funds for an additional 35 adults to go with the children - fare paying. The community centre helps first, second, third generation Chinese families so we could explain the way to buy tickets, costs, timetable working, route, the operation of the service etc. to them and see them off for a great day in sunny Brid. They had not used the train before due to lack of knowledge about how the service worked, perceived language barrier, costs, how to buy tickets etc.
22 July - ASDA, Kingswood with Hull Trains - As last year, we promoted 'what to do for families over the summer'. Successful day - a decent foot fall.
24 July - Scarborough station - There were two Specials and we spoke with over 400 people over a very long, hot day.
24 July - VHEY promoted rail services for us at Frenchgate Centre, Doncaster. We were fully committed in Scarborough. Our thanks to VHEY for this committment to working with us, joined up thinking promoting what to see and how to get there.
26 July - King St, Bridlington with BusIt - 10 until 3pm but stayed an extra hour as so busy. Spoke with around 100 people - bus and train connections could be highlighted.
28 July - Saturday Market, Beverley with BusIt - Again round 100/120 people - discussing bus and rail services.
31 July - Hull Paragon Station - Yorkshire Day (or an early version of it!) with VHEY and Community Junction/Travel extra and Hull Trains. David Townend provided the live music, Yorkshire tea bread, bunting and balloons. A very busy day with around 150 people speaking to us about rail services. |

Events in August 2010
After a manic June and July we planned only one event in August - the summer bank holiday gala at Bridlington station. This was VERY well attended - with the added draw of the Shadows tribute band and model railway show and glorious weather. Much press coverage was put out beforehand, with articles in Hull, Driffield, Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough papers, Radio Humberside and Yorkshire Coast radio.

Events in October 2010
1 October - Freshers Fair, Scarborough We spoke to 230 people about all the rail services minus Hull Trains but added Grand Central. Student Rail card information given out at both the FF and the TPE travel wallets showing students the student discount available via the website shown on the wallet.
9 October - University Open Day, Scarborough and Hull Campuses We spoke to about 140/150 people at each event. Hull Trains produced an attractive package to allow student/family/friends to visit for extended week end period at a good rate from London up to Hull. These prospective students are the future rail users into both areas.
17 October - Railway Ramble - 10 walkers attended, travelling to and from Driffield by train.
20 October - Wolds Expo, Bridlington Spa For the third year we had a stand at Wolds Expo - the 2010 Business and Hospitality show, held at Bridlington Spa. It is the largest business and hospitality show on the East Coast. We found it a very useful exercise and we have always been lucky enough acquire the stand free of charge. ERY Council, and Hull and Humber chamber of commerce are some of the supporters of the event which is sponsored by Business Link Yorkshire. Essentially regional businesses promote their goods and services, meet and trade with local suppliers. There are a host of exhibitors and a programme of free seminars. We effectively engaged with public and businesses.
29 October - Murder Mystery Sold out as usual, 41% new attendees and 69% said such outings would encourage them to use the train again/more. Last year 76% said they did not use the train/had not used for a long time so now we changed our survey questions.
30 October - Haunted Halloween (with TPE on Hull Paragon Station in aid of Children in Need) Spoke to just under 100 people about rail travel and what attractions can be reached up the Coast via rail (VHEY joined us to promote the tourism side). One of the YCCRP members wore a Pudsey suit for 5 hours and helped to raise over £40 for the cause. |

Heritage Rail Tour
On Sunday 31st July we ran the first of our Heritage Rail Tours with Northern Rail. The tour group met at Hull and boarded the 10:25 train to Scarborough. Volunteers from the partnership served refreshments and gave out information while David spoke about points of interest on the line.
Many thanks to the volunteers who helped on the day, some worked for 12 hours to see the event from start to finish. Thanks also to those involved in the planning and to Northern rail for their excellent support and co-operation.
